Students will analyze and document the contents of garbage and extrapolate where the garbage came from, as well as what can be discovered about the people that threw the garbage away. Discuss what we might leave behind. What will future archaeologists think?

Students will learn how to use a compass and a map while searching for treasure.

Antiques Road show Preserving the Past
|
|
The History Out Of the Box educator will bring in items used by archivist and curators to preserve artifacts and family heirlooms. Students are invited to bring items they would like to preserve. It could be a favorite book, doll, truck, etc., and the educator will discuss how to ensure they will be preserved for the future.

21st Century artifacts and exhibit

Students will be asked to bring into class an item they use everyday and discuss why they chose the item and how does it represent our culture. The History Out Of the Box educator will bring in several examples of items we use daily, and discuss how they represent our culture and how our present day items can be preserved for the future. The students will make a class exhibit using the items they brought in.

| The History Out Of the Box Educator will discuss the different pastimes for children throughout history, and why they played the games they played. The educator will bring in historic reproduction toys for the students to play with, as well as interactive parlor games like charades and stagecoach.
